- The Korean Society for Journalism & Communication Studies (KSJCS) is a non-profit, academic organization for scholars, stud
ents, and professionals interested in the study, education, and application of journalism and communication. Founded in 1959
by Professor Bok-San Kwak, KSJCS is the oldest and largest national association striving to promote journalism and communic
ation scholarship and to maintain the freedom of expression in Korea.

- The KSJCS acknowledges that journalism & communication is a vital and highly visible force in Korean society. Thus, a practic
al understanding of how journalism & communication works and what it contributes to our society is crucial for all of our memb
ers. As a flagship and herb society for journalism and communication in Korea, the KSJCS strives to encourage a wide range
of journalism and communication research and to promote high standards for education in such areas.

- The KSJCS emphasizes diversity in its organization and interests, and to this end, the KSJCS offers members the opportunity t
o affiliate with 17 resarch-divisions including: Advertising, International Communication, Culture & Gender, Media Education,
Broadcasting & New Media, Media & Society, Media Laws & Ethics, Journalism History, Human-medium Interaction, Journalis
m, Political Communication. Organizational Communication, Religion & Communication, Regional Journalism, Communication P
olicy, Public Relations, and Human Communication. Each division represents a special sub-field of journalism and communica
tion area and addresses a variety of research issues. Divisions also plan and sponsor diverse research and teaching activitie
s such as convention programs, research competitions and awards, fellowship.

- The KSJCS holds a biannual convention every May and October, which features the latest issues on research, practice and e
ducation in the field. To encourage and reward students on their research achievements while stimulating their interests in the
journalism and communication areas, the KSJCS also holds an exclusive annual conference for graduate students, which is p
repared and managed by the Media and Society division.

- The KSJCS publishes three major, peer-reviewed journals, the Korean Journal of Journalism & Communications Studies, the C
ommunication Theories, and the Asian Communication Research, which are the leading publications in their areas of specialty.
The Korean Journal of Journalism & Communication Studies is the flagship journal of the KSJCS, which is published quarterly
(excluding two special issues). The Communication Theories is an academic forum that is specifically devoted to the encoura
gement and the development of theoretical frameworks and methodological models over a wide array of communications areas.
The Asian Communication Research is an interdisciplinary and international journal, published biannually, which features cutti
ng-edge research at the intersection of regional insights and communication.
